Fashion and Cancer: Fight One with the Other
By: Jackie Clark
Being diagnosed with cancer such as mesothelioma takes many things from you, as a woman. It takes your emotions to a whole new level, with more lows than highs; overwhelming emotions such as anger, denial, regret, sadness, depression and fear take over your body and mind. A cancer diagnosis takes your confidence, your happiness and if you opt to undergo cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation, it could take your hair and your ability to feel beautiful.
While cancer is a taker, it doesn’t have to take everything from you. You may not be able to control your emotions, but you can work on improving them. One simple way to improve your emotions and your quality of life is to improve your confidence. It isn’t easy to improve your confidence when your entire world feels as if though it is crashing around you, but feeling beautiful in your own skin despite your cancer diagnosis will improve your quality of life, which will improve your chances of beating this cancer once and for all.
Take a look in the mirror and pick out the three parts of yourself you like the most. Don’t focus on anything you don’t perceive as beautiful; look only at the three things you are absolutely confident are gorgeous at all times. They key here is to feel beautiful in your own skin and increase your confidence by highlighting your best features through fashion; because if one thing in this world is true, it is that fashion can make a woman feel beautiful and confident simply by existing.
Maybe you have big blue eyes that shine; everyone tells you all the time how beautiful they are. Use fashion to make them even more gorgeous by applying a shimmery white or silver eye shadow at the corners of your eye and along your brow bone. Choose navy mascara that will bring out the blue even more. Your eyes will pop even more and the compliments you will receive will make you feel more confidence in yourself. Now how about those legs? If you know your legs are fabulous, showcase them in a dress with a short hemline and high, high heels. Pick a vibrant color shoe, something bright blue or vibrant red. The shoes will make your legs longer and sexier and the color will give you a boost of confidence, like a supermodel.
Focusing only on your best features and using fashion, which is something that makes most women feel good, will help you to regain some of the confidence that your cancer diagnosis took from you. Cancer will take a lot, but it doesn’t have to take everything. Regain control and you’ll be more beautiful than ever.
Thanks, Jackie!
